No prob, Frost. I'm sure it would be easier to tell the difference between the two if he were more in a 3/4 profile view. I'll try to treat Bubbles in that manner once (and hopefully) get around to doing my animated short.l

I wish they would have done more to give Bubbles a story and a concept art at least even if they didnt put him in as a main antagonist.
<3 Jormag...must be something about the ice ^_^
I LOVE dragons, so I'm super excited to see more art from you and definately interested in your interpretation of them!

I'm guessing there's NO art of Bubbles whatsoever since he's going to be the main baddie for the Cantha expansion, as Kralk will be to Elona. I'm sure we'll start seeing more art of them once the first game comes out, and they start working on the other continents.

As for Bubbles, I want to include some sort of bioluminescence since he's the "Deep Sea Dragon". I want to move away from sort of the decayed and barnacled look since that's more of Zhaitan's bag.

And yeah, I figured you liked Jormag because of the ice, lol.

oooOOooOOoOO!
^ some sort of odd girly squeal...

neat idea!!! should definately try to go with that.
With maybe a body structure like this? Lots of insane teeth like the angler fish...Anyways, gettin ahead of myself lol....

I hope they do release more, but I dont hold my breath for Bubbles since they havent even given him a proper name q.q

And its not just the ice I think the concept art for the Icebrood looks neat too.

I have it on good authority that the Canthan Elder Dragon's full name will in fact be, Bubbles. Bubbles, the Death Dealer.

And yes, he/she would have features similar to Gulper Eel's, Angler Fish, or whatever else you can really find down there. I don't have an exact image in my head yet, but that's where research on deep sea creatures comes in.

I think Bubbles melded with deep sea creatures sounds like an excellent idea. Just the vastness of organisms in the deep sea ocean exceed those for all the species of land animals (and I suppose higher level fish as well. like salmon and such). So the inspiration one can derive from the oceans is literally larger than you can possibly imagine.

/wants to study zoology in university.

I would just suggest staying away from things like feelers or antennae; those might look wierd on a dragon. LOL

Edit: I actually think the body structure for the fish frostkisses posted would work well. it looks sort of reptilian, minus the fins, which screams dragon right at me.

I don't think anything would be dumb enough to fall for a glowing antennae lure hanging off of a colossal dragon's face. And if it does, then it deserved to be eaten.

Yeah, Bubbles I think would be fairly reptilian-like or have certain features that resembled the usual Dragon's face structure. However, I'll probably make it more sleek and streamlined like that of an Eel.

Oh you'd be surprised. Just as fish fall for metal hooks and fishing lures, preying fish think of it as if it was a small, shiny fish. The angler fish wiggles it around a little bit and as soon as any contact is made, it's jaw automatically reflexs shut near/around it. So the fish dont necessarily have to eat it, they just have to touch it.

Would YOU touch a big glowing ball if it just floated up in front of you? ;P

And I would suggest perhaps looking into the moray eel. Sort of for the shape and background, not necessarily the pattern (unless you think Bubbles should be pokadotted. it could work... >.>). They've got a jaw that sort of shoots out of their throat, cause for somereason it hangs out back there when it's mouth is closed. They are also quite vicious; perfect for a dragon trying to overthrow Tyria

Wow, that dragon looks amazing. I think I prefer your design over the "official" one, since yours stands out by being more original than the usual design for a dragon. That mask face is truly terrifying. :3
You've also managed to capture nice depth, with a hazy background and a sharp foreground. All the haziness around it makes the dragon look more and more intimidating, which is probably what the dragon would want too.

@Death: I would definitely touch a glowing orb if it appeared in front of me, if you seemingly catch my drift if it were.

@Aero: Hah, I hope Bubbles, The Death Dealer is its official name. It fits perfectly with Primordus, Kralkatorik, Zhaitan, Jormag, and Bubbles. Should I start calling you that from now on?

@IH: Maybe one day. I think right now, one of my biggest problems is creating a distinct visual style. I feel like a lot of people seem to think I'm trying to copy Kekai's style - which I'm not ACTIVELY trying to do at least. It's difficult not making my work look like his when my natural drawing style is similar - strong contrast/silhouettes and expressive brush strokes.

@Perynne: Thanks, this was mainly a piece to practice depth. I wanted to make it seem like Kralk was in your face, but also so big that he's also reaching back over hills. I think I got that illusion down, though the biggest mistake I see is in the middle-ground where his hand is crashing down. The perspective on that should feel more distance - it looks a bit too close to the viewer.

At least I know what to look out for on my next landscapes and whatnot.

And this is totally unrelated, but we've been watching Looney Toon clips in my Character Design class to study their designs, expressions, etc. I forgot how much I loved these cartoons, so have some just because:

lol I always watched these when I was a kid.

About style, I dont think yours look 100% similar with Kekai's. I see the similarities though. I think it has more to do with the color palette that you use as well. I am sure you have several influences other than Kekai's and maybe looking at their artworks and subconsciously fusing their styles could work for you. (Unless all the artist influences you have are similar in style as well).

When I see your works and think that you should be working for anet, I don't really think that it's because you have the same style as their artist. It means your works look professional and I wouldn't be surprised if you landed you a job there lol (Hey this is a GW website, whose artwork do you think you can be compared to =P).

"No, no, nope, no."

Yeah, I grew up on these cartoons when they used to play them on Cartoon Network, 24/7. I never appreciated the animation up until now, considering it's all hand drawn frame by frame.

Anyways, I'd say one of the main reasons Kekai and I have similar styles is because Frank Frazetta is an influence we share. That explains the strong use of contrast and mix between saturated and neutral tones. I think I should bring in more of my Classical and Baroque influence like Rembrandt and Caravaggio, and how their paintings had a very warm quality with almost a glow to them. Not to mention they're also masters of chiaroscuro and lighting.

Meh, kind of mini rant. I Just don't like it when people say I'm trying to copy Kekai, when chiaroscuro and the sort were techniques well before.

Haha well I wouldn't call me a Death Dealer ^^ My first friends (all now sadly not playing any more ) called me bubbles because of the chocolate, if anything that would make me Death by Chocolate lol

I love Looney Tunes too, my pvp char is called Hugs Hunny, I wanted to call her 'I shoulda turned left at Albuquerue'

That would've been a good name for a char if it could actually fit :\

And I never caught that "La Joella" joke up until now - finally realized that he's talking about San Diego.

You learn something new everyday.

Haven't really had anytime to work on Hail's piece, or anything aside from homework for that matter. Completely swamped with projects from my Illustration and Character Design class. Illustration is kind of a boring, and feels like a bunch of busy work so far. Not fun. Though Char Design seems pretty fun, though with a lot of work. I'll try posting some progress pics of what we're working on as we get further in.

Hoping I can manage all this homework properly and have at least some time to work on Shala and my animated short.
